You don’t have to leave your Nest products behind when you move. You can instead pack up your Nest products and take them with you when you move. However, if you’re feeling generous, you can opt to leave your Nest products to the new homeowner and transfer ownership. Keep reading for four things you can do with Nest products if you’re moving.

Take Your Nest Cam with You When You Move

You invested a good chunk of change in your Nest Cam, not to mention it’s become kind of an integral part of your daily life. Just imagine a world where you can’t keep an eye on your home at all times!

If you want to take your Nest Cam with you when you move, you’ll need to remove it and add a new location via the Google Home or Nest App. There are just a few simple steps to follow that will allows you to add a new location to your Nest Cam and have it accessible at your new home.

To bring your Nest Cam to your new home, and install it properly, follow these steps:

  • Remove the Nest Cam from your current home and carefully pack it to take with you.Plug in the device inside to ensure it works after traveling to your new home.Add your new home location in the Google Home or Nest App.Place your Nest Cam in the potential new location and test to ensure it’s working properly in the app.When mounting, be sure to keep it in range of your Wifi router for the best connection and to keep the camera out of direct sunlight so it does not overheatPlace the mounting magnet where you want to mount the Nest Cam, screw it in, and secure the camera.

Bring Your Nest Thermostat to a New Home

You can’t leave your Nest Thermostat behind for essentially the same reasons you don’t want to abandon your Nest Cam.

If you’ve grown to know and love your Nest Thermostat, you should bring your Nest Thermostat to your new home. Like the Nest Cam, you’ll need to uninstall the Nest Thermostat and bring it. Then, reinstall and add your new location to the Google Home or Nest App.  

When you’re ready to take down your Nest Cam and pack it up, then install it in your new home, follow the directions here:

  • Reset the Nest Thermostat in the settings.Turn off the power to the circuit running your Nest Thermostat.Carefully remove the Nest Thermostat.

It’s also helpful to label the parts of your Nest Thermostat while you’re uninstalling, just to make your job of reinstalling a little easier.

Change Your Nest Doorbell to a New Owner

If you decide that you don’t want to bring your Nest Doorbell with you to your new home, it is possible to transfer ownership of the Nest Doorbell to a new owner. The process is as simple as removing the Nest Doorbell from your account and allowing the new owner to add it to their account.

If you leave your Nest Doorbell at your previous house for a new owner, you’ll need to change the ownership of the Nest Doorbell to the new homeowners. The process is simple; you’ll just need to remove the Nest device from your account so the new owner can set it up.

If the new owner doesn’t have the Nest or Google Home app, he or she will need to download it and set up the device once you’ve removed it from your app. Ensure the Nest Doorbell is completely removed from your account; otherwise, the new owner won’t be able to access the doorbell properly.

Remove Your Nest Doorbell Before Moving

If you’ve opted to take the Nest Doorbell with you, or the new homeowners are bringing their own, and you’re hoping to sell your Nest, you’ll need to remove the Nest Doorbell before you move. The physical removal process for the Nest Doorbell is pretty simple.

What Do I Do If My New House Has Nest Products?

If you just moved into a new home and the home already has Nest Products installed, they will need to be added to your WiFi network and the Nest app to get the most functionality out of the Nest Products. One of the first things you want to do is the factory reset all Nest products in your new home to ensure the old owner can no longer access them.

Listed below are the official Google Support links to reset your different Nest Products. It is important to reset your products before adding them to a new account. It assures that the old owner of the Nest products can’t access the Nest Products anymore.

You should also add your Nest Products all on the same WiFi home network so they form an internet interconnected network of Nest Products to make sure all of the features and functionality of the different Nest Products are online. This will also allow remote monitoring from within the Nest App.

You should also be sure to add all of the Nest Products in your new home to your own Nest Account to take ownership of them, but only after you factory reset all Nest Products.
