If you’re a recent convert to the cord-cutting movement, you may be wondering how to watch NASCAR without cable. This article will explore how to watch prerecorded or live NASCAR racing, qualifying, practice, and other content online through Kodi. Specifically, it will discuss the five best NASCAR Kodi addons. It will also discuss one NASCAR Kodi addon that we think should be avoided.

What is Kodi?

Kodi is an open-source media player developed by the Kodi foundation. It runs apps called “addons” that allow users to play videos from anywhere on the Internet. It can also play files stored on PCs, smartphones, and TV devices, allowing users to integrate all of their media sources into one interface.

Kodi can be installed on a PC, Mac, Android or iOS smartphone, Nvidia Shield or Apple TV. Although it can’t be installed on a Roku, a workaround is possible to play its videos to Roku using a smartphone.

Kodi is sometimes associated in the media with online piracy. However, there are many legal uses for Kodi, including the NASCAR addons recommended in this article.

Warning: Kodi should only be used for content to which you have the legal right to access. Neither the Kodi Foundation nor Comparitech advocates the use of Kodi for piracy.

Why a VPN should always be used with Kodi

Streaming prerecorded or live video carries some privacy and security risks, and Kodi users can help protect themselves from these risks by using a VPN.

For example, an ISP can throttle streaming video speeds for many different  reasons. Users sometimes experience this as buffering, a very annoying problem that can ruin a person’s enjoyment of an otherwise good program. Using a VPN prevents your ISP from knowing what sites you are streaming from, often allowing you to escape this problem.

Streaming-video sites may also block content based on your location. A VPN helps to stop this by preventing the site from knowing where you are. VPNs also help to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks by hackers.

The Five Best Nascar Kodi addons

The following five Kodi addons all stream from official sources sanctioned by NASCAR and other content-creators. They provide excellent picture and sound with few to no dead links. We think any of them would be a good option for at least some NASCAR fans that are Kodi users.

Revved Up

Revved Up streams content from the official NASCAR YouTube page. This content includes recaps of every Monster Energy Cup and Xfinity Series race, episodes of NASCAR Tech Talk, and full race replays of every Xfinity Series and Monster Energy Cup race going back to the beginning of 2016. If you are working on Sunday and have to miss a race, you can usually watch it using Revved Up within a few days to a week of it airing on television.

The biggest problem with Revved Up is that it isn’t a reliable way to watch live NASCAR events. Although NASCAR has livestreamed some NASCAR races on its YouTube channel in the past, it has not stated any official policy that says it will continue to do so in the future. In addition, the Revved Up main menu states that its live events are “coming soon,” so the developer doesn’t consider live racing to be a current feature of the addon.

Another problem with Revved Up is that it can’t be used to watch qualifying, practice, or news shows like NASCAR RaceDay or NASCAR Victory Lane.

That said, Revved Up provides a wide variety of free content that many NASCAR fans will enjoy.

PSVue

PS Vue is a streaming service designed to replace cable or satellite TV. It offers over 40 channels for $39.99, including FOX, NBC, FS1 and NBCSN. Because it has all four of these channels, it allows you to see every Monster Energy, Xfinity, and Camping World Truck Series race, plus qualifying, practice, and shows like NASCAR RaceDay.

PSVue also allows you to add any NASCAR series to your “favorite shows” list and have it be automatically recorded and stored in the cloud for later viewing. This is useful if you happen to work on the weekends or otherwise can’t catch races when they first air.

The PS Vue Kodi addon can be found in the official Kodi repository. To install it, start at the Kodi main menu and click addons → download → video addons → PSVue → install.

Fox Sports Go

The Fox Sports Go Kodi addon streams content from Fox Sports’ official streaming website. In the first half of the season, most NASCAR practice sessions, qualifying events, and races can be seen using this addon. In order to use this addon, you need a subscription to Fox channels through some kind of TV provider, whether that be a cable or satellite service or an over-the-top service like PS Vue.

Fox Sports GO is especially useful for NASCAR fans that are subscribed to DIRECTV NOW, Sling TV, or FuboTV. These services do not have functioning Kodi addons, so Fox Sports GO is the only way to watch the Daytona 500 and other winter and spring NASCAR races through Kodi if you fall into this category.

The Fox Sports Go Kodi addon can be found in the official Kodi repository. To install it, start at the Kodi main menu and click addons → download → video addons → Fox Sports Go → install.

NBC Sports Live Extra

NBC Sports Live Extra is the official streaming service of NBC. The Kodi addon with this name can be used to watch most NASCAR content in the second half of the season, including the NASCAR playoffs and championship race. You will need a subscription to NBC channels through some kind of TV provider in order to use this addon. Like the Fox Sports GO addon mentioned above, NBC Live Extra is especially useful for subscribers to over-the-top TV providers that don’t have a functioning Kodi addon.

The NBC Sports Live Extra Kodi addon can be found in the official Kodi repository. To install it, start at the Kodi main menu and click addons → download → video addons → NBC Sports Live Extra → install.

SportsDevil: A NASCAR addon to stay away from

While all of the addons mentioned above provide excellent picture and sound with comparatively few privacy and security risks, there is one addon that gets mentioned on other sites that we do not recommend: SportsDevil.

SportsDevil is a Kodi addon that uses P2P networks to find pirated streams of live sports content. In the past, it has carried some links to unofficial streams of NASCAR races, and this has caused it to be popular with some NASCAR fans that are Kodi users. However, the NASCAR content on SportsDevil has always been relatively thin compared to what is available from the legal addons mentioned above.

In addition, there are some very big security risks associated with using SportsDevil. In order to use its P2P functions, you have to share your data and location with other users. This can easily be used by malicious programmers to install malware on your device.

Because of the thin content provided, the security risks involved, and the fact that it provides pirated streams, we do not recommend SportsDevil Kodi addon.
